The surface design and iconography of Texas

We visited family in Houston this past week and took some time to wander around Rice UniversityTheir mascot was hidden in architectural details all over the place. It felt like (a very sunny) Hogwarts, and I loved it.

See the star above the owl too? We saw it everywhere while we visited San Antonio, Austin and Houston this week.  I like how it's carried throughout the whole state. It's really on just about everything...

Each city also seemed to have it's own set of graphic elements to pull from. San Antonio used this quatrefoil shape, I'm guessing drawn from the missions along the river. Good job on the graphic design, Texas!

Good and busy

We are back from a splendid time away in beautiful Bristol, TN. We saw dear friends who have moved, chased the corgis all over their family farm, and went to Rhythm and Roots. I'm tired and very busy with work, and both of those are just fine by me.

Now life is going to look like this for a bit:

Thank you John Mayer for coming out with a new album right when I needed it. And, thank you Lorde, for existing. I'm kind of obsessed.

Yes, please, let's go to Paris

Maison d'Objet is in full swing just outside of Paris this week, and I'm wishing I was there.

Maison d'Objet is France's home and gift show. It's kind of like Fashion Week for the home and gift markets, and it's amazing. I was there a few years ago on a work inspiration trip with my coworker and good friend Libby, so it was pretty much the best work trip ever. Work trips can be the worst, even if you're in fantastic places. It's all about who you are traveling with, and how hard they work you. I lucked out on this one.

When I saw Apartment Therapy's feature this morning, I pulled up the photos from my trip for a little inspiration. You can't take photos inside the show, but there is plenty of design to soak up and snap away freely at in the city, of course...

I've been home all Summer, but Fall is full of lots of travel for us to some of our favorite cities with some of our favorite people. It won't be Paris, but it will be inspiring for sure.
